Theater students performed in the musical “Once Upon a Mattress” December 12th, 13th and 14th. The students auditioned this fall to be in the musical, “Once Upon a Mattress,” based off of the children’s book, “The Princess and the Pea.” The characters included: King Sextimus, Queen Agravain, Minstrel, Jester, Princess Winifred, and Prince Dauntless played by Tristin Southern, Julia Timme, Caleb Otte, Samantha Cox, Savannah Hogg, and Gavin Shephard.   Director, Dr. Ellsworth said the most difficult scene in the musical would’ve been the 20-mattress-climb where Princess Winifred was to manipulate the tower of mattress all the way to the top. Hogg, as the Princess, was to flip-flop around and portray the feeling of an uncomfortable pea jabbing her in the back.  Ellsworth wanted to ensure the safety of the actress when climbing the mattresses.  Overall, the humor and talent of the cast had the audience laughing throughout. After the Opening Night performance, Ellsworth stated she was proud of the hard work of the cast and crew.  Theater students now look forward to their One Act Play, “Picnic,” and have begun casting for the spring competition.
