FFA wins at Smith County Junior Livestock Show

FFA students competed in the Smith County Junior Livestock Show on Wednesday, March 30th through Friday, April 1st which was held at Cross Brand Church.
In the Market Fryer Show, Saul Flores placed 17th, Kyleigh Duckett placed 16th, while Travis Williams placed 4th and Brianna Crawford placed 13th where they were both Sale Qualifiers. In the Breeding Rabbit Show, Madison Smith won Grand Champion and Breeding Rabbit Overall. in addition, Brianna Crawford placed 4th, Kyleigh Duckett placed 5th, McKenzie McClenny placed 10th, Audrey Gallagher placed 2nd, Brianna Humes placed 9th, Camryn Gipson placed 4th, Destiny Schmidt placed 6th, Valeria Martinez placed 6th, and Saul Flores placed 5th. In the Market Goat Show, Kerra Moore Eubanks placed 2nd, Cristian Valdez placed 2nd, and Rafael Macias placed 3rd where he was also a Sale Qualifier. In the Market Hog Show, Valeria Martinez placed 6th and Sale Alejandro Martinez placed 2nd where he was also a Sale Qualifier. In the Open Ag Mechanics Show, Alejandro Martinez won a Blue Ribbon. In the Market Ag Mechanics Show, Travis Williams won a Blue Ribbon. In the Commercial Heifer Show, Brady Williams won Reserve Grand Champion where he was also a Sale Qualifier. In the Horticulture Show, Brianna Crawford placed 9th and Kyleigh Duckett placed 8th where she was also a Sale Qualifier.
In the Breeding Heifer Show, Laney Smith won 1st in Class, Brianna Crawford won 1st in Class, and Madison Smith won two 1st in Classes, a 2nd in Class, Grand Champion as well as Reserve Champion Charolais. Alejandro Martinez won two 2nd in Classes, Brady Williams won 4th in Class as well as 2nd in Class, Kyleigh Duckett- won 5th in Class while Travis Williams won 1st in Class, Grand Champion ORB Heifer, and Supreme Champion Heifer. Hayden Acker won 2nd in Class as well as 1st in Class, D’Lyssa Acker won 1st in Class as well as Grand Champion Santa Gertrudis, Travis Abernathy won 2nd in Class, Tucker Abernathy won 1st in Class, and Brianna Humes won 2nd in Class.
In the Home Economics Show, Laney Smith’s cake won a Blue Ribbon and was a Sale Qualifier. Madison Smith’s drawing won a Blue ribbon and her quilt won Reserve Grand Champion where she was also a Sale Qualifier. Valeria Martinez’s caked won Reserve Grand Champion where she was also a Sale Qualifier. D’Lyssa Acker’s cake won a Blue Ribbon and was a Sale Qualifier.
“These last four years of being in FFA, I have learned a lot,” said Martinez. “I have made a lot of friends while going on shows, going to conventions, and all our trips. It is sad to say that this show was my last time in the ring. I will miss it a lot but my siblings will be showing so I will still be involved. The friends I show with are my family.”
Brianna Crawford was also awarded a $2,500 scholarship; FFA will attend the Feed Yard Tech certification trip on Wednesday, April 6th.
