Highlighters competed at the Alamo Dance Classic competition on Sat., March 5th under the direction of Katie Hewitt and Allyson Maranitch.

The Solo and Ensemble awards included 2nd Runner Up Best in Class Solo, 1st Runner Up Best in Class Solo, and Large Ensemble Best in Class.

The Officer awards included Sweepstakes and Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence (meaning they received an average of 93 points or above on all routines) as well as Judges Awards (meaning they received an average of 93 points or above from every judge) for Officer Novelty, Officer Jazz, and Officer Lyrical. The Officers also received Best Overall Presentation, Best Overall Precision, Best Overall Choreography, and 1st Runner Up Best in Class Officers.

The Team awards included Sweepstakes and Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence (meaning they received an average of 93 points or above on all routines). Judges Awards (meaning they received an average of 93 points or above from every judge) for Team Novelty, Team Pom, Team Hip Hop, Best Overall Presentation, Best Overall Precision, Best Overall Choreography, Best Overall Technique, WOW Factor Award Team Pom. They also won 2nd place Academic Champions because of their team combined GPA of 3.909 as well as the ‘Giving Back Award’ for their annual Life Skills Valentine’s Dance.

They won Best in Class Medium Team and “Best of the Best” Team meaning they scored higher than all the other teams at the contest no matter the size of the school or team.

“Allyson and I are so incredibly proud of our girls and are so very thankful for all of the support,” said Hewitt. “It’s been a long road, but our girls pulled out a huge win.”

The Highlighters will perform their award-winning dances at this year’s Spring Show on Fri, April 22nd, and Sun, April 24th.
