The Highlighters Drill Team competed in the ADTS Gussie Nell Davis Classic, in Kilgore, on Saturday, Feb. 12th under the leadership of Head Director Katie Hewitt and Assistant Director Allyson Maranitch.

Their awards included Outstanding Director, Wow Factor Award Team Pom, Officer Sweepstakes and Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence, Team Sweepstakes and Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence, Officer Novelty Judges award, Officer Jazz Judges award, Officer Lyrical Judges award, Team Pom Judges award, Team Hip-Hop Judges award, Best Overall Officer “Gold” (3 out of 4 for presentation, technique, precision, and choreography), Best Overall Team “Platinum” (4 out of 4 for presentation, technique, precision, and choreography), Best in Class Medium Team Officers 1st runner up, Best in Class Medium Team 2nd runner up, as well as 6th Place Best of the Best overall out of all teams and studios at the contest.

“This competition was stressful to pull together, but I’m so proud of the team for taking it seriously and working hard,” Captain Caraline Otte said. “It was great practice for our next competition in San Antonio in which we will keep working very hard.”

The Highlighters will compete for their second “Best of the Best” title in San Antonio on Saturday, March 5th.
