January 25, 2022
Ag Teachers Laura Bennett and Dallas Shively traveled with student FFA heifer exhibitors to the Fort Worth Livestock Show on Thursday, Jan. 20th.
Students who competed included William Abernathy, Brady Williams, Madison Smith, Hayden Acker, Laney Smith, Alejandro Martinez, Kyleigh Duckett, Brianna Crawford, and Travis Williams.
Laney Smith earned 15th place showing her Charolais, Madison Smith earned 8th showing her Charolais, Travis Williams earned 9th showing his Maine Anjou, and Brady Williams earned 5th showing his Limousin. Martinez earned 7th showing his Beefmaster, Acker earned 11th showing his Santa Gertrudis, Crawford earned 17th showing her ORB, and Duckett earned 19th showing her ORB.
“I was very nervous about starting with a heifer project my last year being a member of FFA,” said Crawford. “This was also the first show that I took my new heifer to. It has been very challenging to start showing a new heifer in the middle of the year. Heifer shows have became one of my favorite hobbies, and Fort Worth Livestock Show has been my favorite show so far. I am very thankful for the opportunity to get to travel to shows as an FFA chapter, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of this year holds.”
FFA members will compete again at the Smith County Youth Expo Feb. 9-11th in Bullard.
