Kickin’ it with Shoes For Kids
December 2, 2021
This Nov. 29-Dec. 1, Student Senate held their annual “Shoes for Kids” program for the benefit of kids from Jackson, Kissam, and Wise. Senate high schoolers accompany the elementary students to purchase any shoes that they want, take them out to Cici’s, and to Discovery Science Place or Grand Slam (depending on grade levels).
This program began in 1996 by two freshmen who wanted to provide new shoes for local community children. This year, the organization was able to raise funds for 170 children from the ages of five to twelve to attend.
“As a Senior, I have participated in Shoes For Kids for the past four years,” said President Caraline Otte. “The kids walk away every year so sad to leave the trip, and so excited to sport around their new shoes. This experience is so rewarding for us to help out these kids.”
Student Senate will continue to give back to the Chapel Hill community this Christmas season with their support in the FCA Angel Tree program.
