February 2, 2021
Step Team members junior Treasure Massenburge and senior Mason Mumphrey compete with the “Soldiers in Christ” (SIC) from Zion Temple of Tyler.
“My sister, Bretney founded the organization in 2002 and I started stepping in 2016,” Massenburge said. “It’s an adrenaline rush like any sport, and stepping is like being in a family where we all strive for one common goal.”
They competed on Saturday, Jan. 30th at Klein Forest High School in Houston and Massenburge competed in a trio performance for a virtual competition on Monday, Feb. 1st. It was announced that her group placed 3rd for part one of the World of Step Championship.
“We are a step team that puts God in front of the things we do and we are unashamed of the gospel of Christ,” Mumphrey. “We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people who were called out of darkness into His light. We walk by faith and not by sight. We are saved in Jesus name but definitely not soft.”
The Tennessee State Championship Step Show was held in Memphis on Saturday, April 3rd with the National Step League Organization where SIC won 1st place.
The High School Stomp Down Competition will be held in Houston on Saturday, April 17th with the World Step Association where SIC hopes to win 1st place
