The Academic UIL District competition was held at Spring Hill High School on Wednesday, March 24th under the direction of UIL Coordinator Robert Walsh.

Journalism Events, coached by Jessica Otte, included Editorial Writing where Katherine Adams won a 2nd place medal advancing to Regionals, Caraline Otte won a 3rd place medal advancing to Regionals, and Vivian Tavarez won a 6th place medal. In addition, for Feature Writing, Adams placed 3rd and advanced to Regionals while Francis Morell placed 6th. Morell also placed 5th in News Writing.

In Computer Science, coached by Walsh, Aiden Sayre placed 5th and Alex Rondan placed 6th.

In Current Issues and Events, coached by Haleigh Littleton, Isai Morales placed 6th.

In Literary Criticism, coached by Virginia Foster, Adams placed 4th earning an Alternate Regionals position.

“I’m really excited to get to go to Regionals for two different events,” Adams said. “With this being my first and last year to compete in UIL, I’m glad that all the studying paid off and helped me succeed.”

In addition, Debate competitors Alexis Young and Rylie Lenoir competed in Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking, under the direction of Ty Whitworth, where Young placed 5th and Lenoir placed 6th on Wednesday, March 31st.

The Regional UIL Academic Competition will be held on Saturday, April 17th at Lindale High School.
