The Lady Bulldogs defeated Tyler High in varsity softball with a score of 12-2 on Tuesday, March 16th under the direction of Coach Catherine Ripka.

Although Tyler High opened up scoring in the first inning, the Lady Bulldogs tied the game at two points and they pulled away with four runs in the second inning. Kylei Griffin doubled on a 1-2 count scoring one run, Mia Marmon doubled on a 2-1 count scoring one run, and Hannah Clements singled on a 1-2 count scoring one run.

Hart threw two innings out of the bullpen and they socked one home run on the day racking up 12 hits. Clements, Marmon, Griffin, and Borel each had multiple hits where Clements went 3-for-4 at the plate giving them a lead. Griffin led with three stolen bases while pitcher Gracie Hart induced a groundout to get the last out of the game.

In addition, Griffin has been selected as the KETK “Athlete of the Week” and will be going for her interview next Wednesday, March 24th which will be televised.

“Being the Player of the week is Fantastic; however, this year for me is an opportunity to truly become a better leader,” said Griffin. “I want to motivate my team by saying and doing all the right things while respecting the game and leaving it on the field. My goal for this year is to do well in District with the ultimate goal of winning a State Championship.”

The Lady Bulldogs begin district play this Friday, March 19th at home against the Henderson Lions.
