FFA gets busy over holidays

FFA members competed on Saturday Dec. 5th, in Kaufman. Alejandro Martinez placed 4th in class in both Ring A and B with ‘Dream Catcher’. Madison Smith won 4th in class in Ring A and Reserve Champion in Ring B with ‘Rosemary’. Sydnie Murrell won Grand Champion in Ring A and Reserve Champion in Ring B with ‘Royal’. Murrell won 1st in class in both rings with ‘Chardonnay’.

Students also attended the Winona Winter Classic on Saturday Dec. 12th. Hannah Ritchie and ‘RB’ won Reserve Champion Shorthorn. Travis Williams and ‘Ginger’ won Reserve Champion Limousine. At the Union Grove FFA Fight Before Christmas, Smith won 1st in class with ‘Diamond’ and 2nd in class with ‘Brianna’. It is her first time to show both animals. Laney Smith and ‘Cowie’ won 2nd in class.

“I was really excited because it was my first show with my heifer,” Ritchie said. “We weren’t expecting to win anything but she placed first in her class, shockingly.”

At the Jacksonville FFA Holly Jolly Jackpot Show, Williams and ‘Ginger’ won 2nd place in ring A and B; they won Reserve Champion ORB.  In addition, Murrell went to the Mississippi Youth Expo and placed 1st in class with ‘Chardonnay’; she also placed 2nd in class with ‘Royal’.

CTE ag students will tour A&M Commerce on Friday, Jan. 22nd.
