Senior Angelina Acosta participated in the summer NASA program for high school aerospace scholars. Students who qualified had to be a junior in the state of Texas. Applicants had to write an essay and receive a recommendation to submit. Those who were selected won an all-expense paid trip to go to NASA in Houston. Acosta was able to work alongside aerospace engineers.

“My freshman year, I took a CTE engineering class and I have always had a huge fascination with space ever since I was little,” said Acosta. “When I was younger I wanted to be a planetary geologist and work with that kind of stuff. When I started engineering here, I really fell in love with it. So, I thought becoming an aero engineer would be the best of both worlds. I get to combine both of my passions. This engineering CTE program has been great and it helped me realize what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”

Acosta plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin after graduation. NASA has offered her a job after she obtains her degree, if she would like to work there.
