UIL Solo and Ensemble Band and Choir advance to State

On Saturday Feb. 8th, Band had 80 members compete in the Region 21 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at Lindale High School. Out of a possible 87 medals, they brought home 64 medals.
Emily Hayde, Keilah Knight, Madison Parker, Andrew Luna, Chris Beal and Roni Railsback advanced to State in both Solo and Ensemble. Ruben Velasco, Alyssa Laughlin and Addi’a Walker advanced to State in Solo. Briana Valencia, Kyndal Houff, Jade Boney, Natalie Tucker, Alex Ambriz, Zebediah Light, Ryan Elliott, Sidney McElroy, Jose Cerda, Trevon James, Jenson Higginbotham and Analise Flores advanced to State in Ensemble.
“We topped our medal count for solo and ensemble by five this year. This is a record for our high school”, said Band Director Joseph Hewitt. “I am proud of all of our students that tried out and medaled tonight. We have lots of kiddos who are State-bound.”
Choir Solo and Ensemble students competed Monday, Feb. 10th at Whitehouse High School, under Choir Director Robert Boren, for the Vocal division of UIL Solo & Ensemble.
Out of 13 entries (12 solos and 1 ensemble), 10 received gold medals and will be advancing to the State level contest. State qualifiers include Caiden Ashley, Jo-Kovin Campbell, Khaiya Drawhorn, Kristian Harris, Kendale Johnson, Lee Preston, David Renteria, Ruben Renteria, and Alan Zuniga.
State level contests are both in June. Band will compete in Phlugerville and Choir will compete in Austin.
