Highlighter Captain Mackenzie Ibarra was named an All-State Dance Team member and performed Saturday, Jan. 18th at the TDEA convention (Texas Dance Educators’ Association) in San Antonio. The dancers all performed together after being selected to attend with their directors.

“Mackenzie was one of 250 dancers from across the state of Texas, who was selected to dance as a member of the Texas Dance Educators Association All-State Dance Team,” said Hewitt. “She is a force to be reckoned with, and I am so proud of Mackenzie for her drive and dedication to dance.” 

Ibarra had the opportunity to work with famed choreographer Teddy Forance, as well as several master classes during her time at TDEA. Forance even used Mackenzie to demonstrate a difficult stunt during a rehearsal, and she was moved to the front row of their All-State Dance Team performance.

 The next upcoming Highlighter event will be the Gussie Nell Dance Classic 2020 Competition at Kilgore Junior College on Saturday Feb. 8th.
