Science classes had select students compete in the first on-campus Science Fair on Friday, Jan. 31st. After judges reviewed student projects, 15 students advanced to Regionals from the Biology, Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, and Mathematics & Engineering categories.  

Students advancing to the East Texas Regional Science Fair include 1st place winner Alanah Wynn, 2nd place winner Kenziah Knight, and 3rd place winner Kennedy Fugate as individuals. In addition, 1st place winners Katie Grace Ibarra & Millicent Ezeigwe, 2nd place winners Elizabeth Alexander & Kristen Rivers, 3rd place winners Sydney McElroy & Ruben Renteria also advanced as teams. Other individual honors include Joshua Herman’s Best Experimental Design, Julia Fults & Alondra Medina’s Best Microbial Project, Hillary Crist’s Most Original Project, and Elida Barron & Brittany Anderson’s Best Environmental Project. Honorable Mention was awarded to JP Wheeler, Sydney Murrell, and Ella Bagwell.

“I was shocked and couldn’t believe that Julia and I advanced,’ said Medina. “I am really excited to see all of the science experiments that will be showcased at Regionals.”

The East Texas Regional Science Fair will be held on Friday, Feb. 28th at Kilgore Junior College. They will be considered Senior Division since they have 12 or more high school students who could possibly advance to the State Science Fair.
