Drill Team members competed in the 2020 Gussie Nell Dance Classic Competition at Kilgore Junior College on Saturday Feb. 8th.

The Highlighters placed Best in Class Team 1st Runner Up out of over 20 dance teams, Ensemble Overall Winner, Best of the Best 6th place, Academic Champions 3rd place, Best in Class Officers 1st Runner Up, Sweepstakes Award of Excellence Team, Sweepstakes Award of Excellence Officers, Gold Best Overall Technique Precision Choreography Team, Silver Best Overall Precision Choreography Officers, and the WOW Factor Award for Team Pom.

Special Judge’s Awards included Officer Jazz, Officer Novelty, Officer Lyrical, Team Pom, Team Novelty, and Team Hip Hop.

“I love my team, my job, and all the people who support us through it all,” said Highlighter Director Katie Hewitt. “I am blessed beyond measure.”

Their next competition will be held at Moody Gardens on Saturday, March 7th, over Spring Break, for the Galveston Dance Competition.
