Drill Team Director Katie Hewitt and Captain Mackenzie Ibarra were invited by Smith County Judge Moran who approved a resolution at the Commissioners Court Meeting on Sept. 24th. They declared Sept. 27th as “Chapel Hill Highlighters Day” in recognition of their 50th anniversary collaboration performance with the Whitehouse First Ladies drill team.

Judge Moran was present at the Rose Stadium halftime routine on Sept. 6th and said that he was impressed by the sense of community displayed by both drill teams during their joint performance.

“I am very honored and humbled by this recognition from Judge Moran and the Smith County Commissioners Court,” said Hewitt. “Thank you to Mr. Dean, Mr. Houff, Mr. Ibarra, Mrs. Humes, and Mr. Hewitt for being there for us on this special day.

The drill team will be honored at the Homecoming football game against Pleasant Grove on Friday, Sept. 27th at Bulldog Stadium.

“I am so blessed and appreciative to work in a district that loves and recognizes the hard work that our Highlighters put in as a positive representation of Chapel Hill,” said Hewitt.
