The Texas Army National Guard and the Texas High School Coaches Association announced the 2018-19 Academic All-State Teams on Thursday, Dec 13.  To be nominated, a student must be a senior with an overall GPA of 92% or above.  The THSCA considers each students’ GPA, class rank, SAT and/or ACT score.  The students receive points based on each criteria.  The total number of points they receive determines which team they are placed on.  THSCA has selected seven Bulldogs for the Academic All-State 2nd Team and Academic All-State Honorable Mention.

The football players, under the coaching of Athletic Director, Jason Hooker who were nominated for Academic All-State 2nd Team were David Harris, Chris Hernandez, and Shawn Scoggins.

“We applaud them for their commitment and dedication to perform with the highest of excellence academically and on the field or court, we are proud of these young men”, said Hooker.

Those who received Academic All-State Honorable Mention were Blain Broyles, James Leon, Alex Ovalle, and Colton Rodgers.

“I am honored to receive this recognition of Academic All-State.  It gives me motivation to end the year strong and shows me that hard work pays off”, said Ovalle.
