Marching Band makes history
October 24, 2018
The Bulldog Band went to UIL Marching Competition on Oct. 20th at Stephen F. Austin University. Select Highlighters join the band to perform a flag routine after practicing marching drills, under the coaching of drill team director, Katherine Hewitt.
The band directors Joseph Hewitt, Nick Kelley, Adonna Donovan, Wade Russell, and Chelsye Newland returned with a 1st division rating from all three judges for the band’s military performance on Saturday.
“I am so blessed to work with such amazing people in these directors who all put up with my stress”, said Hewitt. “I am so thankful to my wonderful wife for exploring new things with the band. She and her girls are awesome”.
The Head Drum Major Abigail Robertson conveyed her emotion after hearing they received straight 1’s for the second year in a row.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be able to say we’re the first to begin this tradition of going to Area, said Robertson. “Maybe even advancing to State during my senior year”.
The band will compete in the Area Marching Contest on Saturday, Oct. 27th at Longview High School. They will be judged on a point system rather than a rating, in hopes of making the Top Ten to advance.
