Cosmetology polishes their look

The CTE Cosmetology program has been expanded this year with a brand new salon. It is a two- to three-year program designed to prepare students for working in the cosmetology field. Students completed last year’s introductory course with teacher and cosmetologist, Lori Center. Year two students will review knowledge and be provided advanced training for employment in cosmetology careers under the direction of LeighAnn Crumpton.

“I love cosmetology and teaching future kids”, said Crumpton. “I’m very passionate about an industry where people can always go to see a stylist who can make someone’s day”.

In the beginning, students will practice on their own mannequins under the close watch of their instructor for guidance and “hands-on” learning. They will review academic knowledge and skill related to cosmetology.

“My sister’s inspired me”, said student Lola Aparicio. “It’s a really fun experience and we get to do different things than other classes”.

Students are required to complete 1,000 hours and pass the state examination through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Upon completion, they will earn a cosmetology operator license where they can immediately begin their cosmetology career.
