The Highlighters hosted the Crowd Pleasers fundraiser on February 3rd. This was the first time the competition was held at the high school. Crowd Pleasures is a company that sponsors many dancing events. Half of the proceeds go into next year’s dance funding.

Katie Hewitt worked alongside Debbie Shope in order to organize this event for dancers from all over the East Texas Area. Competitors included performers from TNT Dance Company, Robert E. Lee High School, and Kelly Dance Force along with many others.

“It was a lot of work and preparation leading up to the contest but it was a very successful fundraiser,” said Hewitt.

Many awards were given for solos and group performances. Maddie McFarland received first place for her solo dance.

“I was very surprised,”said McFarland.

The highlighters will be competing at Kilgore College next Saturday.
