The Chapel Hill Marching Band traveled to Longview High School for the UIL Region 21 Marching Contest on Saturday, Oct. 21st. They received a Division 1 Rating. The District contest included all divisions of 85 East Texas high school bands.
“They have earned many 1st Divisions, but it hasn’t happened since 2006 that they received three straight 1s from all three judges”, said Director of Bands, Joseph Hewitt. “We (directors) are so very proud”.
The band will be moving on to the National Association of Military Marching Bands competition at SFA’s campus on Nov. 4th. The competition will be between 10-12 other 4A programs, who also received high ratings during contest, in hopes of advancing to State.
“We really redeemed ourselves from last year and centered our focus on making straight 1s, so to earn that and get the opportunity to compete in the NAMMB competition is definitely an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment”, said senior flute player, Stephania Andersen. “I’m satisfied”.
