Players ‘serve’ up a win at District

Varsity Boys and Girls teams competed, April 3 at Longview High School. Ana Mazarias, a foreign exchange student from Spain, joined the varsity team as a sophomore rookie. She placed sixth in District for the girls’ singles category. JV teams competed on Monday at Spring Hill High School.

“Over 25 student participated in two home tournaments with Troup and Tatum. ¬†We did not win every medal but many athletes who had not competed in UIL high school events found an extracurricular home in tennis,” said Coach Robert Sampson. “Many will be back next year and are already preparing for the next season.”

JV Girls Team won the second place District plaque in the girls’ singles category. Junior, Mayra Vasquez received an individual fourth place medal in girls’ singles.

“It’s not just one person, it’s the whole team who make up the points,” said Vasquez. “I wasn’t expecting to place in singles, but I’m proud of myself.”
