Highlighters dance for high accolades

On Saturday, February 18, Highlighters competed at the Gussie Nell Davis Dance Classic dance competition at Kilgore Junior College.

They were awarded 19 awards including: Division 1 rating and Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence for officers, Division 1 rating and Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence for team, 1st Runner-Up Best in Class Medium Ensemble, Judges Award for all three team and all three officer routines, silver trophy for best overall precision and best overall choreography for officers, platinum trophy for best overall precision, best overall technique, best overall showmanship and best overall choreography team, 3rd runner up for best in class officers, 2nd runner up for best in class team, 6th place Best of the Best team out of the entire contest with a total score of 858 pts, and 2nd place Academic Champions with a cumulative average GPA of 3.71.

“I feel like this competition was an amazing experience because all of our hard work and effort really payed off,” ¬†Highlighter Katie Leon said. “Most importantly, I got to do it with the people I love.”

The Highlighter Spring Show will feature all drill team dances and will be held March 3-4  in the Terri Procell Bowen auditorium.
