On Wednesday, February 8th, seven students attended the District Cross Examination Debate tournament in Spring Hill. Two teams earned medals and gained the high school points towards the overall District Academics competition this spring.

Cross Examination (CX) teams were: Makenna Hurd, Avah Garcia, Aidan Wilt, Noah Whitworth, Jennifer Thornton, Samantha Sibal and Cassidy Willingham. Coaches for the CX teams were Amanda Adair, Blade Healey and Ty Whitworth.

“In 2 weeks, we went from knowing nothing to competing,” said Adair. ” I am proud of our teams progress and good preparation.”

Overall, CHHS debate team finished in 2nd place at this event. Individual scores include Avah Garcia and Makenna Hurd in 5th place and Noah Whitworth and Aidan Wilt in 6th.

“I think we did very well for having little preparation,”said Wilt. “Chapel Hill may not have gone far in this event, but I look forward to our progress in future events.”

There will be no more Cross Examination debates, but there will be another Lincoln Douglas debate to be announced.
