Junior Myah Runyan competed at the Miss Texas Teen USA competition in Houston this weekend. Preliminaries included interview, swimsuit, and evening gown events on Saturday, Nov.26th. Finals were Sunday, Nov.27th where the Top 15 were named before the competition was broadcast live on the Crystal Group’s website.

She began the application process for the local pageant as a way to compete for prestigious scholarships. She was named Miss Tyler Teen USA in March and has prepared for Miss Texas Teen over the last several months. Her sponsors, who helped her on the road to Miss Texas Teen, included numerous personal sponsors as well as local businesses and organizations like Friendly Baptist Church, Team APEC, Classic Toyota, and South Tyler Dermatology.

Runyan attributes her new sense of self-confidence and self-awareness to her first pageant experience. She spoke of her gratitude for the support she received from family and friends, especially her parents.

“So incredibly proud of this young lady… she came into this competition knowing nothing about pageants”, said mother Tanya Runyan. “She walked away with friends and a confidence she didn’t know she had”.

Part of the duties of being Miss Tyler Teen consists of making appearances for local non-profit organizations. She was asked, by Tyler Gold Run, to help kick off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month on Sept. 1st in downtown Tyler. Runyan was eager to participate since it was cause dear to her as her mother is also a childhood cancer survivor.

Runyan confirmed that she would like to continue her journey in pageantry in the future.

“I got to experience what it was like to be behind the scenes and what it takes to be Miss Texas Teen USA”, said Myah. “I learned a lot about myself. It has been an honor to represent the City of Tyler and I am very grateful for this opportunity.”
