Drum major tryouts for the Marching Band were held Thursday, May 14th. Sophomore, Osvaldo Campos, and juniors, Haley Larsen and Lesly Sandavol, were chosen as the 2015-2016 drum majors to lead their fellow band members.

“The drum majors are expected to be leaders,” said Campos. “We’re expected to excel in the band program, and to be a good representation of Chapel Hill and our directors.”

A total of 11 students auditioned to be a drum major, with only three positions available. “It was very exciting (finding out I made it),” Campos continued. “Emotional even. Band has been my favorite thing and true love, and I dedicate myself to it. Through my growing in leadership and work in the band, I felt I had a good chance.”

“I decided to try out because this is a new outreach for me in the band program. It will allow me to grow in leadership, and better myself in band, but most importantly to be a leader for my peers.”
